Week 1

Goal of week 1: Form a group, chose our structure, and plan out a 10 week schedule of completion.

Freshman Design Project Topic: Investigate, Model and Analyze Magnificent Structures

"Forming Groups of 4 or 5, students will perform research on an existing constructed system that has achieved the status of a historic monument while still serving its intended functions. They will understand and report on basic characteristics and the reasons for successful performance of the structure, especially the critical loads, how it is carrying its loads and how/if the structure is being adequately preserved."

Group Members:

      - Renee Pisano         -(email: rp543@drexel.edu)

      - Cody Johnson        -(email: cjj45@drexel.edu)

      - Paulina Iniewicz     -(email: psi26@drexel.edu)

      - Carly Alessandro    -(email: cfa25@drexel.edu)

Objectives of the Project:

This blog will track the weekly progress of our group as we complete our Freshman Design Project.  When the project is complete, we will have a 3D rendering and a physical model of a chosen structure (in our case the CN Tower in Toronto, ON). Structural Analysis will then be performed on the 3D rendering, depicting how the structure handles dominant loads.

Outcome of this week:

This week we formed our group of four, chose our structure, and started planning out how we were going to manage our time for the next 10 weeks. We started researching the history of the CN tower for our presentation in Week 2. We created a 10 week schedule in Project Libre (shown below), that shows the deadlines we have created for ourselves. We have decided to meet up later this weekend to finish our PowerPoint (which we will link to next week's blog entry).
